Get Fired May 27 edition report...

It was a great relief shutting down the laptop computer at about 3:30pm on Friday 27, 2011; that effectively drew the curtain on the low-key launching of Get Fired…redefining purpose, winning back the future. It is an educational revival and student redemption project conceptualized by UKSolutions (Unique Knowledge Solutions), a capacity building organization. It was on purpose that we settled for Children’s’ Day anniversary as the best moment to have a low-key launching. Now it has come and gone, but we felt you all deserve a situation report on the programme. It should have come earlier than this, but it took another four weeks to clear our tables of suspended engagement.
Very early in the morning on May 27, 2011, the Get Fired crew set out to HALLMARK COLLEGE IBADAN, the host centre of the programme. As expected, students were already trooping in, in their numbers as early as 8:30am, with the momentum building every passing minute. Some few days before the programme, HALLMARK COLLEGE administrators had intimated us with their plan to have our programme perfectly blended with theirs, which we obliged. So, the day witnessed quiz competition, debate, drama, comedy skit, beauty pageant, and lastly, Get Fired. The Get Fired segment was a mixture of movie show with a motivational speech from the Chief Responsibility Officer of Get Fired, Mr. Alamu Samson. The movie on display on the day was Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story, starring Cuba Gooding Jr., Kimberly Elise, and Aunjanue Ellis. It is a movie based on the life story of a world-renowned neurosurgeon Ben Carson. We adopted the movie at Get Fired for its motivational and inspirational capability. It chronicles the life of an African-American child from one-parent home with failing grades at school, deteriorating character, and all the obstacles an average Nigerian Student would cite as a justification for their below-par life (academics, morals et al.)

At about 10:00am, there was a match past and the singing of the national anthem, which signaled the beginning of the programme. In quick succession, while the Get Fired crew fixes the projector, laptop, sound gadgets et al, other segments of the programme rolled bye until about 1pm when Get Fired took over proceedings. Trust me, the entire hall was silenced with everybody’s attention securely arrested; from the students to the dignitaries present (school authority and guests). Sure you want to be there to feel what we are trying to capture here. At about 3:30pm when we drew the curtain, it was a task placating the students who all showed willingness to continue. What more can we say; the highlight of the day for us was when the HALLMARK COLLEGE authorities expressed their intention to have us work with their school beyond May 27. Also, we met one of the dignitaries present, in the person of Mrs. Ogidan Bolarinwa, District Manager ErrandEx, who signified her organization’s intention to work with us. As stated in our mission statement however, we do not focus on activities, but quantifiable result. Nigerian educational sector must be fundamentally revived; hence all stakeholders must fasten their seat belt for this long journey that has just started.
As a departure signature, we noticed something quite impressing about our host, HALLMARK COLLEGE IBADAN, hence we prepared a short feature or profile as you may say, on the school. NOTE
©Motiv8 (movie and motivational speech) is our first-meeting programme at Get Fired, but we have a host of continuity projects meant to achieve our goal. Click About for full reading. Long live Nigeria, long lives our dream!
